TAGGING & PREPARING YOUR ITEMS
Getting Started
Your first step will be to determine what you plan to sell. It might first be helpful to know what Wardrobe Revival is and what it is not.
Wardrobe Revival is…
…designed for fashion lovers.
…focused on name brands, current styles and items less than 3 years old.
…a good option for consignors who love to shop, are often swayed by influencers to purchase the newest season’s trends, and for those who are constantly rotating their closets with new items.
…a fantastic option for selling your items when you missed return deadlines or bought something last season that you thought you’d love, but only ended up wearing once or twice.
…the perfect solution if you have teens or tweens who love something new every season or outgrow the items they wore last season.
…the answer you need if you’ve lost or gained weight and have a closet full of clothing that’s adding to your mental load. Get it out of the house and enjoy shopping for the correct size on our massive, super organized sales floor!
…a great way to earn money on the items you no longer wear and swap them for new-to-you items you love.
Wardrobe Revival is NOT…
…a garage sale.
…a good option for dated, worn, or out of style items.
…a good option as a consignor if your closet is not in a constant state of rotating new items in and out.
…a solution to totes upon totes of clothing in your basement or attic. If it’s been stored in a tote, that probably means it’s more than 3 years old, which means it is not a good fit for selling at Wardrobe Revival.
…a good fit for those who tend to shop Walmart and big box stores for their clothing. We’d love to have you as a shopper, but consigning will not be a good fit for you because we will not accept most clothing from Walmart and big box retailers.
…a good option if your wardrobe consists of the same clothing you’ve worn for 5+ years. We’d love to have you as a shopper, but consigning may not be a great fit if your items are not all 3 years or newer.
How well your items are prepared is directly indicative of how well they will sell. Every item will need to be inspected for staining, general wear and tear, malfunctions, etc.
-Each consignor is able to enter a MAX of 175 inventory items into the sale.
-There is a MAX of 100 hanging clothing items for each consignor. Some categories have additional limits, which you can find explained further on the Accepted Items tab.
-The minimum price for all items is $5.00.
-For consignors with high end items from brands like Free People, Anthropologie, Madewell, lululemon, Athleta, Alo, etc., there is an option to enter more than 100 clothing items. If you think this applies to you, email wardroberevivalsale@gmail.com and we can take a look at your inventory.
Refer to the Accepted Items page of the website for further details about what categories will be accepted at the sale.
IMPORTANT:
All items must be entered into the system by 10:00 PM on Sunday, November 8. After that time, you may still PRINT tags, but you will be unable to edit or enter additional items into the system.
Follow these Steps to enter your inventory:
- Register as a consignor here.
- Read through the Consign tab, along with each of the drop downs under it, to familiarize yourself with what you can sell and how to prep, price, and tag your items.
- Hang and organize your clothing by category and size. (For example, all dresses together and in size order and all leggings together and in size order.) This will make item entry move much faster. All items must be hung so that the hanger makes a ? with the item facing you. All items must be in size order at the time of drop off.
- Log into your Consignor Portal using your consignor number and password.
- Select “Menu,” and then click the “Work with Consigned Inventory” link.
- Select “Add Items” and your method of entry (mobile/PC/voice entry). Click “Add New Item” and select the accurate Category & Size for your item. Failure to use the accurate Category & Size options will make picking up unsold items very difficult for you later on, so it’s important to enter them correctly to start.
LINE 1: Always start with the BRAND, followed by a detailed description that can be used to appropriately match your item and tag together should the tag fall off during the sale. The first line should always include the BRAND, followed by your detailed description, and the second line is optional.
EXAMPLE:
Line 1: Anthro-Blue Floral
Line 2: Somerset Dress - Price your item as LOW as you are comfortable selling it! The minimum price for each item is $5.00, and we encourage you to always add a $.50 to the price.
- The “Quantity” section should always remain at 1 unless you are wanting to produce multiple tags with the exact same price & description.
- DISCOUNT: Click this box if you would like to discount the item during the 1/2 Price shopping hours at the end of the sale. (We HIGHLY recommend discounting ALL items, especially clothing, books, & shoes, as it drastically increases your chances of selling them!)
- DONATE: Click this box if you would like us to donate your item after the sale if it does not sell. We encourage our consignors to consider donating unsold items, especially clothing. If your item is shopped by thousands of people and does not sell, you can bless another family in our community by donating it to one of the many organizations we work with.
- Click “Submit” and move to your next item.
- Print your tags on white or light colored cardstock. (Avoid printing on regular printer paper because tags will be bent, torn, and ripped off of items, making them unable to be sold at the sale. Please do not change the size of the tags when printing. Tags will print 10 to a page.
To print tags, click on, “Work with Consigned Inventory,” and then “Print Tags.” Choose to “Print Selected Tags” or “Print All Tags (PDF).” Once printed, tags will look like the tag to the left. - See below for specific tagging instructions based on category.
Supplies Needed for Tagging:
- White or light colored cardstock (Please do NOT use regular printer paper or dark cardstock. You risk your items being declined if the tags will not stay on properly.)
- Scissors and/or Paper Cutter
- PANTS: Clip style pants hangers. These ones are a good option. You can also purchase these clips that attach to plastic hangers.
- OTHER CLOTHING: Adult Sized Hangers-Tops, coats, and dresses, and other hanging items must be on adult sized hangers so that the garment stays securely on the hanger. If the item is strappy, it should be on a notched hanger. If it is a slick material or has a wide neck, it should be on a grippy hanger. If it is a heavy item, it should be on a sturdy hanger that will not bow or break when shoppers are moving items on the racks. All hanger hooks must be standard sized (no small undergarment hooks) and children’s hangers are not permitted. These are a great and inexpensive way to make any hanger grippy.
- Tagging Gun or Safety Pins (NOTE: Clothespins and straight pins are not an accepted option for attaching clothing to hangers or for attaching tags to clothing!)
- Painters Tape
- Ziploc Bags (various sizes, depending upon what you are selling)
- Plastic Wrap-optional (good for wrapping puzzles)
- Zipties-optional (good for pairing shoes & securing multi-part items and tags)
- Batteries (as needed)
Item Preparation:
CLOTHING:
All clothing should be freshly laundered, wrinkle free, and on a hanger. We do not accept clothing in Ziploc baggies.
Items MUST be hung so that the hanger forms a question mark when the clothing is facing you.
Plastic, wire, or velvet hangers should be used for tops, jackets, and dresses. Hangers should be the appropriate size for the item, meaning a heavy coat should be on a stronger, more sturdy hanger.
Pants hangers with clips are required for all bottoms. We will NOT accept bottoms folded over the hanger and we will NOT accept pants attached to hangers with safety pins.
NO SAFETY PINS!! We will NOT accept clothing safety pinned to hangers.
Staples, straight pins, clothespins, and tape are strictly prohibited for attaching tags to clothing or clothing to hangers.
ALWAYS attach inventory tag to the garment tag if possible. If there is no tag, you should ONLY puncture the fabric through a seam in the LEFT armpit (right side when it’s facing you on the hanger), at the back of the neck on the seam, or at the side seam or back inside seam of a pair of pants.
WARNING: Items with puncture holes through the fabric are subject to rejection. We do not accept items with holes, so don’t make the mistake of tagging directly through the fabric…if there is a hole, your item will not be accepted.
Again, NEVER pierce directly through fabric with a tagging gun, as it will likely cause holes and result in the item not being accepted. Always puncture through the garment tag, armpit/side seam, or through the back neckline on the seam.
If selling multiple pieces together (for example: leggings with a matching sports bra), each item should be on a separate hanger and the hangers should be secured together using a zip tie. Place pants and tops back-to-back so that the shopper can see the front of both garments clearly. Never attach pants to a shirt with a tagging gun, as this will cause holes and result in the item not being accepted.
SHOES:
Shoes should be clean and in gently used or like new condition. There are 3 important spots to check when entering shoes: toes, footbeds, and soles. We do not accept shoes with scuffed toes. We do not accept shoes with dirty footbeds. We do not accept shoes if the bottom soles are worn thin or if they are uneven due to wear.
Use zip-ties to secure shoes together whenever possible.
Do your best to attach tags VERY securely, as shoes are heavily shopped, handled, and tried on during the sale.
Please do not bring shoes in bags or boxes. These will likely be discarded. If additional laces or other accessories belong with the shoes, they should be secured in a ziploc and attached to the shoes using a zip tie.
Socks are not accepted unless new in package/with tags.
PUZZLES:
No children’s puzzles will be accepted.
Puzzles must be 500 or more pieces.
Puzzles must contain all pieces.
Use painter’s tape to secure the puzzle boxes so that lids don’t fall off on the sales floor.
NEVER use packing or duct tape on puzzles, as it will damage the item and make it unacceptable at the sale.
BOOKS:
Up to 20 adult books per consignor will be accepted. Children’s books are not accepted. Books should be in excellent condition, free of excessive wear and tear, water damage, and footnotes/highlights/writing.
Books should be recent best sellers, front list, or well known titles.
Tape the tag to the back inside cover of books. Use painters tape to avoid ripping or tearing. NEVER use packing tape on books, as it will rip the pages/covers and will cause items not to be accepted.
PURSES & BAGS:
This is a VERY popular section amongst shoppers!
Items priced over $25 will have a large item claim tag attached and will be secured to a rack so that shoppers must pay for the item before removing it.
Ensure that your items are properly cleaned, free of excessive wear, fading or rubbing, and smells. Purses and bags should be clean on the inside and the outside.
All buttons, snaps, and zippers must be in proper working order.
We do not accept fake or replica bags.
Use a ziptie to secure your inventory tag to a strap or fixed loop somewhere on the right side of the bag when possible.
Accessories
We accept all types of fashion accessories such as jewelry, sunglasses belts, scarves, and hats, as well as like new fragrances. These items must be in excellent condition, untarnished, untangled, and in style.
Use a safety pin or zip tie to attach your tag to necklaces.
Earrings can be attached directly through the cardstock of your inventory tag and secured with the earring backs. Use a safety pin or tagging gun to pierce your cardstock.
Sunglasses, belts, bracelets, scarves, hats, and other miscellaneous accessories can be attached directly to the item using a zip tie or a safety pin.
Items priced over $25 will be secured with a large item tag and attached to the rack, which will allow customers to claim and pay for the item before we remove it from the sales floor.
UNSOLD ITEMS:
Any unsold items left after the designated pick up time will be donated to one of our local charity partners.
